Gold is used for closing eyelids that won't shut completely.
Lagophthalmos is a condition in which a person is unable to fully close their eyelids. This ailment is remedied by placing a small quantity of gold inside the upper eyelid. The extra weight provided by the gold allows the eyelid to close completely.
