In 2010 a man was rejected from becoming a foreign ambassador due to an unfortunate mistranslation.

Imagine you’re in charge of hiring the new ambassador from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia, when you get an application from a professional, highly trustworthy and experienced applicant. Surely you would pick him?

The applicant in question is Akbar Zeb. He has been the Pakistani ambassador to 3 countries before, but none of them has Arabic as their official language. In Arabic, Akbar Zeb translates to ‘biggest dick’.

There is an 19-year-old girl who is still physically a baby.

Brooke Greenberg was born prematurely in Baltimore in 1993. She had an unusual organ system and disfigured hips. Almost no doctors expected her to live more than a year. What no one expected, however, was that at 18, Brooke would be the only known adult to still be physically and mentally 11 months old.

She has shown no signs of aging and the only body parts that have grown at a normal rate are her fingernails and hair. She has trouble digesting and needs to be fed through a tube. Despite this, she is still a happy infant and enjoys the same activities most babies do. Doctors have found that her body is growing at different rates. She has the teeth of an 8-year-old, the brain of a 1-year old and the bones of a 10-year old.

Despite this strange condition, she has no hormonal or chromosomal problems. Doctors say her development is proceeding 'extremely slowly.' They're trying to figure out exactly what is causing the defect. They think she might hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of aging.

Read more about her fascinating story here and here.

An acronym is only an acronym if you say it like a word

What's the difference between the words NASA and CEO? Although each letter represents a word in both cases, one is an acronym and the other is an initialism.

Almost every English-speaking person will have confused this at some point. It’s easy to be confused, especially considering how often the proper name for a non-pronounceable acronym, initialism, is so underused.

You may still be a bit confused about when to use each word. As you should already know, an abbreviation is when a word is shortened and put together. An initialism is when this is done by taking the first letter of each word and spelling them out. An acronym is when the initialism can be pronounced as a word.

Now you know what the correct terms are. Although, if you don’t want to have to explain yourself constantly, it’s probably better to just say acronym.

There’s a 4000km wide diamond in our galaxy!

The gigantic piece of bling was discovered by scientists at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. It’s 50 light years away from Earth and is in the constellation centaurus. The diamond was created by a star that, instead of exploding in a supernova, compressed itself into a white dwarf star.

The 10 billion trillion trillion diamond formed in the center of the star. Scientists have predicted that one day this could happen to our sun. "Our Sun will become a diamond that truly is forever," said Travis Metcalfe, the leader of the team that discovered it.
