87-year-old blues artist B.B. King still plays over 100 shows a year!

Riley B. King was born in 1925 and became famous by his stage name B.B. King as one of the most famous blues artists of all time. Rolling Stone names King No. 6 on the 100 greatest guitarists of all time list. He is often nicknamed “The King Of Blues” and even at his age continues to play over 100 shows a year!

King has always been famous for his incredible energy. In 1956 it was recorded that he appeared in 342 shows! This is considered especially amazing when some artists perform only once or twice a year. Born in a small cabin in Mississippi, King began singing in a local gospel choir. He was noted for his talent and eventually picked up the guitar, which he excelled at almost immediately. He began recording songs in 1949 and eventually went on to win 15 Grammy awards!

The University of Texas football players ate their mascot at a sports banquet in 1920!

The mascot for the University of Texas is named Bevo and is a Texas longhorn steer with a burnt orange color. The current mascot is the fourteenth to be named Bevo, and some of them have had interesting lives. The idea to use a longhorn as the mascot was first presented in 1916. Bevo II charged an opposing school’s cheerleader and Bevo III escaped and ran throughout campus for nearly two days before being caught.

The most famous incident concerning Bevo was in 1920. Texas A&M students had branded the cow with “13-0” because they had recently achieved a victory with that score. Around the same time, UT hit a rough financial patch and had to make some tough decisions about where to make cuts. They decided it was too costly to maintain a fully-grown longhorn, so instead had him fattened up, slaughtered, and served at a football banquet.

The A&M players were given the part of the cow that had been branded, which was still visible. Fortunately, the school began making money again and reinstated their beloved Bevo.

The record for lowest attendance at an MLB game is 347 fans!

Ever gone to a sporting event and wondered how the team could survive with so little fans in the stands? Even when this thought crosses your mind, there are usually at least a couple thousand people there. Imagine going to a game and seeing only a few hundred!

How could this happen? In 2011, The Florida Marlins played the Cincinnati Reds and broke the record for the least amount of people at an MLB game. The previous record had been set in 1979 at an Oakland Athletics game with only 653 people. The reason only 347 people turned out was because of Hurricane Irene.

Many of those who had purchased tickets decided to flee the area and save their belongings from the potential damage than attend a sporting event. Justin Cohen, a fan at the game, counted five sections with only three or four people in them and three that were completely empty!
