The band Duran Duran took their name from a villain in the movie Barbarella.

The band Duran Duran took their name from a villain in the movie Barbarella.

Formed in Birmingham in 1978, Duran Duran often played gigs at a nightclub called “Rum Runner.” One of the most successful clubs in the area was called “Barbarella’s”, boasting such performers as the Sex Pistols and the Clash. Barbarella is a 1968 futuristic sci-fi film starring Bridget Fonda as its title character. In the year 40,000, Barbarella is sent to the planet Tau Ceti to track down a mad scientist who is threatening peace in the galaxy.

The villain’s name? Dr. Durand Durand. The actor that played the villain, Milo O’Shea, repaid the band for this compliment by appearing as an older version of the character in Arena, Duran Duran’s 1984 concert film. The band also played homage to the film with their single, “Electric Barbarella”, which was released in the United States back in 1997.

Martin Sheen has been arrested 66 times!

It looks like Charlie’s got a long way to go before he can beat his dad’s reputation! It’s not quite what it looks like though - the majority of Martin’s detentions have been due to some sort of political protest and not for shameless self-promotion like his son would do. The cleaner Sheen was brought into custody numerous times from 1986 to 2007 for his activism in protesting nuclear testing sites. We all know who REALLY has tiger blood flowing through his veins...

A bushtail possum’s pregnancy typically lasts 17 to 18 DAYS.

Bushtail possums take up to a year of growing before they are old enough to begin breeding, but they certainly make up for lost time. These possums have an incredibly short gestation period, which allows for there to be multiple mating seasons within just one year. There’s typically a smaller birth season in the spring followed by another more productive season in the fall.

Baby possums spend a lot more time nursing than they do in the womb. After spending just over two weeks developing in the womb, a baby possum (a joey) stays in the mother’s pouch for 120 days at a time. 80 of those days are spent permanently attached the the mother’s teat.

T.G.I. Friday’s was founded in order to help its owner meet women!

The uber-popular restaurant chain was founded by perfume salesman Alan Stillman in 1965. A bachelor, Stillman lived in a neighborhood on the east side of Manhattan that had many single ladies. However, this presented quite the dilemma for Alan, as most of the social hangouts in the area were either exclusive cocktail parties or bars that were geared toward beer-drinking males. Therefore, he took $5,000 in cash and an borrowed an additional five grand from his mother and repurposed a local NYC tavern, despite having no prior experience as a restaurateur.

Prior to the advent of T.G.I. Friday’s, four single 25-year-old girls were not going out on Friday nights, in public and with each other, to have a good time because there was honestly no such place for them to go. By seeking to recreate the familiar cocktail party experience out in public, Spillman inadvertently created the nation’s first singles bar!

You can keep a crocodile's mouth shut with a rubber band!

The reason for this is that the muscles that control the opening a crocodile's jaws are extremely week. So much so that a thick rubber band is enough to prevent a crocodile to open its mouth!

If you do thought, make sure they stay that way, because the muscles that close a crocodile's jaw are extremely strong and will probably crush you
