Until 2007, all Russian cosmonauts had to bring guns with them to space.

This wasn’t so that the Russians could shoot extra-terrestrials, or have space battles with U.S. astronauts. The idea was that in the case of a Russian spacecraft landing in hostile territory, the cosmonauts could protect themselves. This practice is a relic of the Cold War era, though it was only recently put to rest when the Russian government introduce an international treaty banning the transportation of weapons into space.

The gun itself was pretty awesome. It’s triple barreled pistol that could shoot rifle bullets, shotgun shells, and flares. It also comes with a shovel and a machete attached. You could call it the gun equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife. The gun was stored in a metal case between the seats on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, only to be used in emergencies. After a successful landing, the rare gun was offered to the ship’s commander as a gift.

Actor Andy Garcia was born with a conjoined twin attached to his shoulder.

Best known for his roles in The Godfather Part III and the Ocean’s 11 trilogy, Garcia has ridden his Cuban good looks to a successful career as several iconic and powerful mob figures. But could you imagine TWO Andy Garcias? That might have been more than even Hollywood could handle! Believe it or not, that was almost the case - Garcia was born with a twin about the size of a ball attached to his shoulder. The malformed sibling was surgically removed, but a scar still remains on Andy’s shoulder to this day.

There are venomous fish!

The world’s most venomous fish (not to be confused with the most poisonous fish) is the Synanceia or Stonefish. The stonefish is a fish with sharp fins that can pierce skin and deliver a deadly venom. Stonefish stings are painful, cause swelling, and sometimes they require amputations if not treated quickly enough. A large enough dosage of the venom can even kill someone.

Stonefish get their name because they look like stones. People have stepped on them without even noticing them. This is bad, because they can sting through your shoes.

The Cult from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is Real!

The Thuggee cult is just as violent as the movie describes them. The way they worked is that they would join a caravan of travelers, and become accepted. Later they commited mass murder!

Here's more information about cults: Information about cults can be difficult to come by as many of these groups don't want to be known to the public, but there are now approximately 3000-5000 cults operating in the United States with between 2,000,000 and 5,000,000 active members between them. From the Latin word "cultus," which means "adoration" or "care," not all cults believe in aliens or a doomsday philosophy. Loosely defined, cults are a group of people who come together around a belief system that is considered abnormal or strange by mainstream standards, which may or may not include entities from outer space.

Here's a YouTube video from a cult that seems to be surging in popularity lately.

Stray-bullet shootings are most likely to kill women and non-violent people.

Typically, shootings are perpetrated by young men. It was surprising when a study from 2008-2009 on stray bullet shootings found that young men were not at high risk for getting killed in stray-bullet shootings. (Stray-bullet shootings are stray bullets from violent shootouts, sport shooting, and celebratory gunfire). A majority of people struck by stray bullets are outside of the 18-34 age range, and while the vast majority of shooters are men, 40% of stray bullet victims are women. 68.2% of people hit by stray bullets were indoors during the shooting, and 81% were completely unaware of the events leading up to the gunfire.
