During the great depression, there were popular porno comics called Tijuana Bibles

Tijuana Bibles were underground pornographic comics made between the 20s and 60s. Their popularity was at its height during the Great Depression. Between 1920 and 1960 there were between 700-1000 original stories circulated.

The comics were wallet size, had 8 panels, and were 8 pages long. The authors and artists were unknown and they weren’t all the same. They depicted various popular figures of the time without permission and used ethnic stereotypes greatly. They were distributed in garages, schools, barber shops, and other local places.

There’s a museum dedicated to bad art!

The Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) contains over 500 pieces of art so bad that it shouldn’t be ignored. At one time 25-35 pieces are available for viewing. The museum is privately owned and has two branches in Massachusetts.

It started up with Scott Wilson pulling out a bad piece of art from the garbage and then starting a collection. He began doing showings of his collection and they were so popular that he had to find a permanent display for them. MOBA is mentioned in over a dozen Boston area guides.
