Moray eels have a second set of jaws like in Alien!

Moray eels have a strong sense of smell and use it to ambush their prey. They have a large jaw and their mouth is camouflaged on the inside.

Their second jaw is located in their throat, because their heads are too narrow to create the negative pressure most fish use to swallow their prey.

Their second jaw does have teeth. When they catch their prey, their second jaw shoots into their mouth to capture the prey and pulls it down the throat and into the digestive system.

Ernst Hanfstaengl, close confidante of Hitler, defected to the Allies after Hitler played a bad practical joke on him!

Ernst fell out of favor with Hitler in 1933. To teach him a lesson, Hitler put him in an airplane with secret sealed orders that he was not supposed to open until he was in the air.

The orders said he was flying into then-hostile Spain. He would be be parachuted down and work with Francisco Franco. By all accounts, he would most likely die. He claimed that he talked to the pilot into letting him free. However, others say it was just a practical joke.

Apparently, the true story is that the plane wascircling Germany. Hitler was just trying to scare Ernst into thinking they were getting closer to Spain. At the end of the 'prank,' the plane safely landed back in Germany.

Despite this, Ernst was so upset that he defected to Switzerland, then to England, and ended up in the U.S. where he gave valuable information about 400 Nazi leaders and details about Hitler and his personal life.

There was a bigger, deadlier fire on the same day as the Great Chicago Fire. It's mostly forgotten.

Known as the Peshtigo Fire, it occurred on October 8, 1871, the same day as the Great Chicago Fire. The Peshtigo Fire was much deadlier than the Chicago Fire and it actually holds the record for the deadliest fire in US history.

It occurred in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, which is relatively close to Chicago, IL. Estimates put the death toll at somewhere between 1200 and 2500 deaths. The total area affected by the fire was around 1875 square miles, or twice the size of Rhode Island.

October 8th was actually a pretty active day for fires. Across Lake Michigan, the cities of Holland and Mainstee, Michigan were also affected by fires, as well as the city of Port Huron, on the southern end of Lake Huron. Some have speculated that something like a meteorite could've caused this, but scientists believe that is probably not true.
