You cannot legally watch MLK’s “I Have A Dream Speech” for free!
It's copyrighted material, and it costs $10 to get any video/audio or $20 for the entirety of the speech that changed the United States’ history forever. Dr. King’s family owns the rights to his speech until the year 2038!
But why is it copyrighted? Usually speeches are in the public domain, such as Obama’s “Yes We Can” speech. However, The estate of Dr. King sued Twentieth Century Fox in 1963 for selling records of his speech without permission. Since then, the speech has been disputed to be in the public domain as well as staying copy-written. What do you think? Should speeches be automatically in the public domain?
