‘White House Honey Ale’ is the only beer known to have been brewed in the White House.

These presidential suds were produced this past January at the request of President Barack Obama. The homebrew was produced by White House chefs using honey obtained from bees in the presidential garden. Obama unveiled around 100 bottles of the unique brew at his Super Bowl party, where guests could choose between Pennsyvania’s own Yuengling for Steelers fans, Green Bay’s Hinterland Beer, or stay neutral with the commander-in-chief’s own offering.

Apples produce a gas that can be used to ripen other fruits.

As fruits such as apples and pears age, they emit an odorless gas called ethylene. This substance is responsible for many of the changes that come with ripening in some fruits, such as color change and an overall softening. This effect is used as an advantage for commercial growers, who use ethylene to ripen fruits such as bananas, pears, and tomatoes once they have been harvested.

Unfortunately, this ‘fruit aging hormone’ can also cause serious damage in many plants, depending on their age and susceptibility to the gas. This can leave some vegetation severely crippled and may even lead to death! However, fruits such as cherries and blueberries are not affected at all by ethylene gas, so this effect greatly varies depending on the type of plant involved.

Wikipedia has banned the Church of Scientology from editing any of its articles!

The ban centered itself around over 400 articles about the controversial religion which had been subject to a series of long-standing and heated edit wars. The conflict was between numerous editors from the church itself who methodically used multiple user accounts to deceptively silence Scientology critics who had been citing their own source materials. Though Wikipedia prides itself on being open and inclusive, enough was enough - and many of the users involved were banned on an individual basis for six months!

There was a karate master who used to fight bulls with his bare hands.

Masutatsu Oyama was the founder of Kyokushin, a style of karate practiced by people like Sean Connery and Dolph Lundgren. In the 1950s, Oyama used to demonstrate his power by fighting bulls. He fought and killed 52 bulls using just martial arts, often by first chopping the bulls’ horns off with karate chops. Though he did nearly get killed himself, and once had to be hospitalized for 6 months, he got really good at fighting bulls. Three of them he was able to kill instantly. He also earned the title of “the Godhand” because he could knock out most of his (human) opponents with just one punch!
