Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants is an octopus, not a squid.

Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants is an octopus, not a squid.

Yes, his name is rather counterintuitive, but the show’s creator, Stephen Hillenburg, asserts that Spongebob’s cranky neighbor is definitely an octopus (someone really ought to straighten this out with his voice actor though...) Another fact that settles this debate is that Squidward possesses an octopus’s rounded head, not the distinctive pointy mantle of a squid.

As for his misleading name, honestly...would “Octoward” Tentacles have a better ring to it?? Although, if you really think about it, we should technically be calling Squidward a ‘hexapus’ since he only has six legs and not the usual eight! Hillenburg said this choice was made to keep the character from appearing too bulky and burdened.

Every hour, 3,000 puppies and kittens are born in the US.

By the end of a given day, 70,000 new puppies and kittens will be born, in the United States alone. By comparison, only 10,000 humans are born every day. This means that, unless the average person plans on having 7 pets each (an average household of 2.59 people would need to have 18 pets) there’s no way there will be enough homes for all the cats and dogs in the country. That’s why 6-8 million dogs and cats are taken to shelters every year, and 4-5 million of them have to be euthanized every year. In addition, there are 60-100 million feral cats in the United States, and the cost every year to U.S. taxpayers of disposing of these unwanted animals adds up to $2 billion.

The Cult from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is Real!

The Thuggee cult is just as violent as the movie describes them. The way they worked is that they would join a caravan of travelers, and become accepted. Later they commited mass murder!

Here's more information about cults: Information about cults can be difficult to come by as many of these groups don't want to be known to the public, but there are now approximately 3000-5000 cults operating in the United States with between 2,000,000 and 5,000,000 active members between them. From the Latin word "cultus," which means "adoration" or "care," not all cults believe in aliens or a doomsday philosophy. Loosely defined, cults are a group of people who come together around a belief system that is considered abnormal or strange by mainstream standards, which may or may not include entities from outer space.

Here's a YouTube video from a cult that seems to be surging in popularity lately.

The largest flower in the world can get up to 12 feet tall, and smells like a dead body.

Amorphophallus titanum, or the “corpse flower”, is a rare plant that grows in the Indonesian rainforests. It can grow to be up to 170 lbs and typically reaches heights of 7-12 feet! Technically the Amorphophallus titanum is a cluster of tiny flowers, and not a single flower. The largest single flower is the Rafflesia arnoldii. This plant has a single flower that stretches to 3 feet in width and can weigh up to 15 lbs. This plant is also native to rainforests in Indonesia, and also has the smell of a corpse. Both of these plants smell so awful to attract flies to pollinate them.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has become just the NINTH film to make over a billion dollars worldwide!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has become just the NINTH film to make over a billion dollars worldwide!

The final Potter installment joins an exclusive club consisting of: Avatar, Titanic, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Toy Story 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Alice in Wonderland, and The Dark Knight. Save for the Pirates sequels and Alice, this is generally an extremely well-reviewed group of films. Tragically, a few days after Hallows: Part 2 crossed this threshold, the club was further diluted by the addition of another billion-dollar stinker, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

This means that during this summer alone, an unprecedented THREE movies have grossed over a billion! Keep in mind that while Hallows: Part 2 received a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, the other two sequels received awful scores of 33% and 36%! And you wonder why Hollywood keeps making sequels...it’s because your average moviegoer can’t discern the difference between Batman Begins and Batman & Robin.
