A Peruvian teenager survived after the airplane she was flying on EXPLODED!

Remember the fact about you being able to survive falling on an airplane? Meet Juliane Koepcke, who not only survived the fall, she survived after her plane exploded in mid air!

On Christmas Eve, 1971, the airplane that Koepcke was flying on was struck by lightning and disintegrated at 10,000 ft over the Peruvian rainforest. When she woke up from the fall, she was still strapped to her seat. She survived on candy for 9 days until she found a hut where some Lumberjacks helped her get back to civilization.

German Internet users have been trolling a town for 17 years!

Known as the Bielefeld Conspiracy, this is an internet meme among German internet users in which they pretend that the town of Bielefeld does not actually exists.

According to the story, a group the call "Sie" (which means "They" in German). It started as a joke in 1994, when a Usenet group posited these three questions:

  1. Do you know anybody from Bielefeld?
  2. Have you ever been to Bielefeld?
  3. Do you know anybody who has ever been to Bielefeld?

It has gotten so popular, that even though the township has created campaigns to expose the town to tourists, they still get a lot of calls doubting they exist!

Who said Germans weren't funny?

Steve Jobs called a Google Engineer on a Sunday with an emergency: the gradient on their O was slightly off

Steve Jobs' attention to detail is legendary, almost as much as how demanding he was to the people he worked with. That's why Vic Gundotra, who was responsible for all Google Mobile applications in 2008, rushed to call Steve Jobs back when he called him on a Sunday during his church services. Vic describes Steve's request as follows:

"So Vic, we have an urgent issue, one that I need addressed right away. I've already assigned someone from my team to help you, and I hope you can fix this tomorrow" said Steve.

"I've been looking at the Google logo on the iPhone and I'm not happy with the icon. The second O in Google doesn't have the right yellow gradient. It's just wrong and I'm going to have Greg fix it tomorrow. Is that okay with you?"

While this may seem excessive, almost tyrannical to some, Vic Gundotra had a different read on it:

"But in the end, when I think about leadership, passion and attention to detail, I think back to the call I received from Steve Jobs on a Sunday morning in January. It was a lesson I'll never forget. CEOs should care about details. Even shades of yellow. On a Sunday."

What do you guys think?

R2-D2 and C3PO appear on Indiana Jones!

Easter eggs are pretty common in movies, and this comes as no surprise, since George Lucas produced and wrote the Indiana Jones movies. You can see the glyphs of Threepeeo and Artoo on this column. Hmm... maybe Star Wars was a long time ago, but it wasn't as far far away as we thought.

Visual Effects are used way more than you think on Television!

While the big time, obvious TV special effects are often maligned for being pretty terrible (we're looking at you Lost), and there's rare exceptions where they can be really good (watch Fringe!), there is actually a lot more visual effects used on television for far more subtle uses. Check out the video below and prepared to be shocked as to how much of what you see on TV is actually NOT real!
