Fox Turned Down South Park!

I bet Fox is regretting the decision they made back in the 90's to turn down South Park.

Before being picked up by Comedy Central Trey Parker and Matt Stone were "turned down flat" by fox executives.

In an issue of Details magazine they say that before any interest was shown for the show they had a pitch session with Fox.  After the antimated series was dismissed by Fox they gave Stone and Parker some advice. They said the show would never work and that it should be two guys and a girl, or should include more ethnicities.

Jokes on Fox, South Park is now on its 15th season and is signed through 2013.

Grenades are named after pomegranates!

The name of the explosive armament actually comes from the French word for the fruit, grenade. This came from the Old French word pomegrenate or pomme-grenade. The name for the grenade reflects the similarity in shape between it and the pomegranate. Pomegranates also can explode when overripe in order to spread its seeds over a wide perimeter.

You can get a LOT of information on someone just from their driver's license # if they're from one of these US States!

Check out this website. They've figured out the algorithm that some states use when assigning a driver's license number. I tried my IL number out and it spat out my first and middle initial, guessed my last name and knew my birthdate and gender!

The states that work with this website are Florida, Illinois and Wisconsin. You can also enter your information and it'll guess what your number is on those states, plus Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York and Washington!

If you test it out, let us know in the comments!

The Hairy Frog breaks its own bones as a defense mechanism!

Of the many strange defense mechanisms in nature, this might be one of the strangest ones. When threatened, the Hairy Frog actually BREAKS the bones in its toes in order to expose a retractable claws that are being held back by a keratin nodule along its legs. The claws are projected THROUGH the skin. Interestingly, while most claws are made out of keratin, the hairy frogs' are actually made of bone.

This was discovered first hand by a scientist that was studying the frog! While scientists are sure that this is a defensive mechanism, the retraction method is not known. Scientists think that the claws remain exposed while the body regenerates the bones back to their original state.

90% of US pumpkins are produced within an area that is only 0.3% of the US!

According to the University of Illinois, 90% of pumpkins in the US are produced within 90 miles of Peoria, IL! The radius of this area is only 0.3% of the total surface area of the United States! While a lot of them are used for carving, most are canned into puree or a pie mix.

The self-proclaimed pumpkin capital of the world is Morton, Illinois; a town near Peoria which houses the Libby's pumpkin processing plant, which cans up to 85% of the world's pumpkins each year!
