Orcas hunt and eat Great White Sharks!

Talk about a killer whale. Through a combination of superior brain power and brute force, these sea-mammals are able to hunt the most feared predators of the ocean. According to the scientists that study their behavior, populations of orcas across the world have learned and devised strategies to kill sharks.
The most impressive one? The "karate chop." Orcas use their tails to drive the shark to the surface, thrusting their tails to create a current that pushes the shark up to the surface. They don't even need to touch the shark! Once up there, the whale pivots and lifts its tail and comes down like a karate chop. The whale then turns the shark upside down, which paralyzes it. This implies that they have some basic knowledge of how sharks work (sharks have to swim at all times or they drown). I think I'll never see Free Willy the same way again!

New York City reduces its homeless population by buying them one way tickets out of the city!

It costs the city an average of $36,000 to keep a family in New York's shelter system. In an effort to keep these costs down, New York has flown more than 550 families out of the city. The only requirement? A relative has to agree to take the family in wherever they want to relocate.
The program is mostly used for families that move to New York in hopes of getting jobs, but fall to hard times. The most common outbound destinations are San Juan, Florida and North Carolina. The city spends about $500,000 a year on the program and takes care of all the planning and booking. A family can be out of the city within hours or days of asking for assistance.

In Medieval Times, Red Hair Was Associated With Moral Degradation and Intense Sexual Desire

Cyros International, the world’s largest sperm bank, has started turning away red headed donors.  The low demand for red headed babies apparently has roots that go far back.

Ancient Egyptians were said to have buried redheaded men alive and in medieval times, red hair was associated with moral degradation and intense sexual desire. Redheads were  even regarded as vampires, werewolves and witches. During the Spanish Inquisition red heads were singled out for persecution, believing their hair to be sure sign that they stole the fires of hell.

The good news is that there is still one country where red headed babies are in high demand: Ireland!

Brazil has an Island with so many venomous snakes that humans are banned from it.

Nicknamed Snake Island, it is the home to the Golden Lancehead Viper, which is the one of the most venomous snakes in the world.

Interestingly enough, the Golden Lancehead is the only species of snake that lives in the island, and it’s considered in danger of extinction. A documentary from the discovery channel states that there’s as many as one snake per 10 square feet. For many years, the island’s only inhabitant was the lighthouse keeper, but nowadays the Brazilian Navy bans civilians from visiting the island. It is estimated that there’s anywhere between 5,000-7,000 snakes in the island. (Source)
