Only 18 out of every MILLION Lego blocks don't pass the quality test.

At 0.00002%, that's quite an impressive success rate, especially for toy pieces that can be so small. They put Legos through numerous inspection spots. Machines perform drop, torque, tension, compression, bite and impact tests that are designed to ensure that the blocks are safe for kids.

Legos are placed in different bags and weighed to make sure the right pieces are going where they're supposed to go. Most Legos are packaged and shipped from the Czech Republic and Denmark. The factories produce 33,000 Legos per minute.

Many states practiced forced sterilization of "undesirable" people as recently as the 1970's!

This movement was based on a scientific theory called eugenics. Eugenicists believe that poverty, promiscuity and alcoholism are inherited traits. People following this movement proposed that in order to improve the society’s gene pool, the people who exhibited those traits should be sterilized.

There were 31 states that had a government run eugenics program. Between 1929 and 1974, in North Carolina alone, there were 7,600 people who got sterilized. For the past 9 years, North Carolina lawmakers have been trying to compensate the victims by giving them from $20,000 to $50,000 per person even though they accept that what they’ve done has affected way more than the compensation can cover.

The source mentions the case of Elaine Riddick, who became pregnant after being raped at age 13 in 1967. North Carolina's eugenics board ordered the hospital to sterilize her immediately after giving birth. She is one of the few victims of this that have come forward to talk about what was done to her. She's suing North Carolina for $1 million.

An allergist has spent 60 years cracking ONLY his left-hand knuckles to prove it's not bad for you!

The original fact on cracking your knuckles is one of our most popular of all time. Basically, it said that cracking your knuckles is not bad for you, no matter what the old wives' tales may say.

However, probably the most convincing study on this comes from a man who just won an "Ig Nobel" for his self-study on knuckle-cracking.

Dr. Donald Unger has spent the better part of the last 60 years cracking the knucles of his left hand. He started because he wanted to prove his mom wrong when she told him he would have health problems if he kept doing it.

Since he started, he has NEVER cracked the knuckles on his right hand. This means that, if it's true that cracking your knuckles was bad for your fingers, then his left-hand fingers would have a horrible arthritis while his right-hand fingers would be ok.

Well, the doctor, now 83, says "there is not the slightest sign of arthritis in either hand." His research has won him an "Ig Nobel," which is a tongue-in-cheek parody of the real Nobel awards.

I'm glad he did this, because I don't know if I'd have the willpower to resist NOT cracking my other hand's knuckles if I could only do one side.

German Academics voted "shitstorm" as the best English loanword

A loanword is a word that a language takes directly from another language. English has 'loaned' the words Zeppelin and Zeitgeist from German for example.

German borrows a few words from English too. One of them happens to be 'shitstorm.' A jury of German academics named the word "Shitstorm" as the best English loanword for 2011.

The jury defined the word as "public outcry, primarily on the Internet, in which arguments mix with threats and insults to reach a critical mass, forcing a reaction." It was used a lot in the coverage of the Greek debt crisis.

So yeah... we got Zeppelin and Zeitgeist from them, we gave them shitstorm.. who do you think got the better end of that deal?

When Marv had a tarantula on his face in Home Alone, he had to mime the scream or risk being bitten!

Daniel Stern ("Marv") agreed to have a tarantula put on his face for the movie. They took safety precautions out of concern that the tarantula would have been scared into biting him if he actually screamed. To prevent this, they filmed the scene with Daniel just mouthing and miming a scream, but without making a sound. The sound was added later in post-production.

Here are some more fun facts about the movie:

• In the scene where Harry attempts to bite off Kevin's finger, Joe Pesci actually bit Macaulay Culkin, leaving a scar on his finger.

• The role for Harry was offered to Robert De Niro but he denied it. Can you imagine Robert De Niro in Home Alone?

• Daniel Stern accidentally said the "s-word". You can hear it when he is retrieving his boot through the doggy door at 55:27 on the DVD.

• The famous pose on the movie poster where Culkin has his hands on his face while screaming is a reference to the famous painting "The Scream" by Edvard Munch. For more cool facts click the Source!
