Europe has "Silent Discos." You listen to music on your headphones

Due to noise ordinances in Europe, club owners have created “silent discos” where clubbers listen to music through headphones. Rather than use a speaker system, some club owners have resorted to wireless headphones to entertain club goers.

Music is broadcasted via FM-transmitter to the clubber’s headphones. It’s called “silent discos.” The style of clubbing is popular for music festivals, when people want to party long after noise ordinances would allow. Two DJ’s often compete for the listeners, too.

An Episode of Fear Factor in which contestants drank donkey semen and urine has been pulled by NBC

The show has been trying to step up the extremeness of the stunts since it came back on the air. Today (1/30/12), an episode of the show called "Hee Haw Hee Haw!" was scheduled to air. The promo materials mentioned that contestants would "eat the unimaginable."

The media had caught wind what "the unimaginable" meant: donkey semen and urine. News reports caused a frenzy last week. It seems that NBC had given producers the green light to air this episode. However, it seems the new parent company for NBC, Comcast, decided the stunt was way to extreme and decided to pull the episode.

What do you think? Would you have aired the episode if it was up to you? Would you watch it?

When you repeat a word continuously and it loses meaning, it’s called “jamais vu.”

Jamais vu means “never seen” and is considered the opposite or reverse of déjà vu. It means the sense of unfamiliarity in the presence of very familiar things, situations or words. It’s been observed and estimated that 60% of people have experienced jamais vu before.

Jamais vu was first recognized about 100 years ago and musicians are prone to getting it while playing a familiar passage. The brain is fatigued in a way when jamais vu occurs. Another name for the specific linguistic phenomenon of jamais vu is "Semantic Satiation."
