One in four Americans has a criminal record.

However, these criminal records are the result of crimes ranging from violent crimes like rape and murder to minor drug offenses and writing bad checks. Whatever the reason, if you are one of the 1 in 4 Americans with a criminal record, you can expect that record to follow you for the rest of your life. If potential employers find out you have a criminal record through a background check, there’s a good chance they won’t hire you. This can be especially tough for the over 700,000 people released from prison and re-entering the workforce every year.

For instance, check out these Craigslist ads that all bar employment for people with criminal records. Thanks to the National Employment Law Project for pointing this out.

Taiwan has a toilet-themed restaurant.

At “Modern Toilet” every customer sits on a toilet and eats on a glass table on top of a sink. Food is served on miniature toilets, and you drink out of miniature urinals. Of course, the food is real food like fried chicken, curry, and pasta. They have dessert too, but their desserts are all styled to look like poop! The poop-shaped ice cream is served on a miniature toilet. Chocolate is named “diarrhea”, strawberry is “bloody poop”, and they have kiwi ice cream named “green dysentery”. A man can solve complex math equations faster than a calculator.

Scott Flansberg is so good at math that Regis Philbin gave him the nickname “The Human Calculator!” His expertise is not limited to a couple types of functions either; he can add, subtract, multiply, divide, and even do square and cube roots - all with lightning-fast speed and precision. Scott holds a Guinness World Record for his ability because he was able to add the same number to itself more times within a period of 15 seconds than a person could do with a calculator. He claims that he would be even faster but for the fact that he cannot articulate the answers as quickly as he can calculate them in his head!

Watch Scott beat the pants off a group of college math professors in this video:

The mass of the Earth is approximately 6,580,798,520,700,000,000,000 tons.

Earth is also the densest planet in our solar system at 5.5 grams per cubic centimeter. Mercury is the second most dense of our neighbors, and would be much more so if it weren’t so small. Earth has a major advantage because its size causes so much gravity that it compacts itself down much tighter than smaller planets.

Air conditioning makes you fatter.

If you stop and think about this for a moment, it makes perfect sense. If an environment is too hot or too cold, your body has to burn calories in order to adjust its internal temperature accordingly. When you have air conditioning, your body does not have to do a thing because the temperature is ideal! Obviously, this wouldn’t have an overly dramatic effect on a person’s weight, but turning off the A/C is something to consider for people who are trying to lose a couple pounds here and there.
