You absorb more egg proteins if they’re cooked than if they’re raw!

You probably have the mental image of Rocky trying to bulk up by eating raw eggs. It’s a rather nasty image no? The reason for doing it that way is that some nutrients get lost after cooking.

An egg contains about 6 grams of protein, and when you eat them raw, you absorb roughly 50% of the protein. That means that 3 grams go to waste! Studies have found that when you cook eggs, the protein is absorbed at the rate of 91%.

The reason for the higher absorption percentage is that heat changes the molecular structural of protein. Not only that, but eating cooked eggs reduces other health risks, like salmonella.

99% of the energy produced in Norway is renewable and clean!

The United States should take a lesson from Norway! There, 99% of all energy produced is renewable and clean, due to the country’s use of hydropower. Hydropower is power derived from the energy of falling water. Other clean sources of energy that are being experimented with are wind power and wave power.

What makes hydropower renewable? Renewable energy is energy that comes from sources that are continually replenished, such as sun, wind, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Using hydropower as an energy source is “green” because it doesn’t use un-renewable resources such as oil which have potential to harm the environment.

The renewable energy movement is gaining worldwide attention, with new legislation mandating it's use. Government support and rising oil prices are also catalysts to encourage the use of renewable energy sources.

Hydrogen in Saturn gets so dense towards the core that it turns into metal.

It's sometime hard to believe that the same elements that exist on our little blue home are also present in the giant, magestic, cosmic beast that is Saturn.

Saturn is classified as a gas giant because the exterior is predominately composed of gas and lacks a definite surface. However, it does have a solid core.

The planet primarily consists of hydrogen. The density of the hydrogen reached at the radius is 99.9% of Saturn's mass. The temperature, pressure, and desnity inside the planet all rise steadily towards the core which, in the deeper layers of the planet, cause hydrogen to morph into a metal.

The silent treatment can be considered a form of emotional abuse

Emotional abuse is an understated and elusive problem. It's not taken as seriously as physical abuse nor is it as well known as physical abuse, but it is far more prevalent. While it does not leave physical scars, it can make life unbearable for those who suffer from it.

Emotional abuse is the subjecting of a person to psychological trauma, including depression, anxiety, stress, etc. Acts of emotional abuse include verbal aggression (e.g.saying something with the intention of upsetting someone), dominant behavior (e.g. Preventing someone from seeing family/friends), and jealous behaviors (e.g. Accusing a partner of having another relationship)

The silent treatment is a tactic that doesn't take into consideration the rights and responsibilities of both parties involved in a disagreement, but rather it deflects the blame on the party receiving the silence treatment.

This shifts the power balance to the side of the person giving the silence treatment, and often leads to them getting their way. Prolonged, severe, and routine uses of the silent treatment are considered by many behavioral psychologists to be a tell-tale sign of ongoing or future emotional abuse. People who are depressed spend more time in REM sleep!

There is a strong correlation between the amount of REM sleep a person has and depth of depression. The more REM sleep, the more negative emotions emitted. So, the earlier the REM sleep occurs in an individual, the more severe the depression is.

In some cases, the REM sleep can begin 45 minutes after falling asleep. That means these sleepers' first cycle of NREM sleep amounts to about half the usual length of time. This early REM displaces the initial deep sleep, which is not fully recovered later in the night. The displacement of the first deep sleep is accompanied by an absence of the usual large outflow of growth hormone.

The timing of the greatest release of human growth hormone is in the first deep sleep cycle. The depressed have very little slow-wave sleep, Stages 3 and 4 of the sleep cycle, and no big pulse of HGH; and in addition to growth, HGH is related to physical repair.

If we do not get enough deep sleep, our bodies take longer to heal and grow. The absence of the large spurt of HGH during the first deep sleep continues in many depressed patients even when they are no longer depressed.
