The world's largest functional yoyo is 11 feet, 6 inches in diameter.

The massive toy was designed by a team at Bay College in Escanaba, Michigan. It took the seven members four months to perfect the behemoth, because it had to function like a normal yoyo in order to qualify for the world record. The test run went off without a hitch with the yoyo being dropped from a height of 90 feet! Somehow we doubt they were able to "walk the dog," though...

A polar bear's stomach can hold an estimated 15% to 20% of its body weight.

Also, its stomach can assimilate 84% of the protein, and 97% of the fat it eats. That's pretty efficient! Also, polar bears only need 2 kg or 4.4 lbs of fat every day to survive.

Even though polar bears have been known to kill walruses and even young beluga whales, a ringed seal alone could sustain a polar bear for eight whole days. Polar bears don't always finish eating what they kill either. The carcasses end up getting left behind to be eaten by arctic foxes and gulls.

Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness among adults.

Though diabetes is able to be detected through an eye exam, only 38% of adults who do not wear glasses or contacts have been to an optometrist in the past two years. Of the nearly 21 million Americans who suffer from diabetes, an estimated 6 million have not been diagnosed! Early detection of the disease allows for the prevention of diabetic retinopathy, a complication that can lead to complete blindness.

Check out this press release from the American Optometric Association for more on the link between diabetes and blindness.

The word "moose" comes from the Algonquian word moosu, meaning "he strips off."

The original word refers to a moose's habit of stripping the bark off of trees for food.

In the backstory of The Lion King, Scar's name was originally Taka.

A series of books entitled "The Lion King: Six New Adventures" were published as a follow-up to the hit film. Scar's original given name means "dirt" or "trash" in Swahili. When Mufasa was named the heir to the throne of Pride Rock, Scar became angry and attempts to trick him into a fight with a Cape buffalo (this seems familiar...).

Mufasa escapes unscathed, but Taka was not so lucky. He was attacked by the entire herd and suffered a nasty cut over his left eye. Because it would never fully heal, Taka requested that he be called "Scar" from that point onward as a reminder of the foolish anger he displayed.
