You can use chips to start a fire!

While technically almost anything can be used to start a fire, chips are one of the most flammable objects! In fact, chips can work as well as bark or kindle to begin a fire, and will burn long enough to ignite damp wood.

The reason chips are so flammable is because of the way the oil is cooked into the chip. The oil is relatively slow to burn, sustaining a flame long enough to ignite damp wood, and making chips one of the most flammable objects!
