South America is the only continent not to include an island country.




This is true only if you choose to include the island countries of Oceania with Australia. If you want to get really technical, New Zealand is not on the same continental shelf as Australia. However, a few Caribbean islands also sit atop the South American continental shelf and are nonetheless grouped with North America. Oceania is also associated with Australia most frequently because it is not classified as its own continent.
