In the original draft of Back To The Future, the Delorean was a fridge
In the original draft of Back To The Future, the time machine was a laser device that gets attached to a refrigerator, and taken to the Nevada desert test site for the atomic bomb. The fridge gets strapped to the back of a truck and then is driven into the explosion to harness it’s power for time travel. Marty climbs into the fridge as the truck barrels down to the explosion. The whole idea was scratched by Steven Spielberg because he was scared that kids would start climbing into refrigerators and getting trapped inside by trying to time travel themselves. The fridge was eventually replaced by the Delorean.
