Without the Butterfinger bar, there would be no Milhouse on The Simpsons!

The Simpsons has had a long history of appearing in advertisements such as Coca-Cola, Burger King, and probably most famously: Butterfinger! In a 1988 commercial for Butterfinger, Bart is seen eating lunch with a nameless character that now everyone recognizes as Milhouse Van Houten!

The name Milhouse was chosen by creator Matt Groening because he said that Milhouse is the saddest name for a kid that he could think of and also, it's the middle name of President Nixon. Groening addresses the unfortunate name in his comic strip Life Is Hell saying that Milhouse was a name “no longer recommended”! To see the original sighting of Milhouse, watch the clip!
