Transgender prisoners are especially vulnerable due to this decision. No regard is taken for the gender that they currently display or appear as. Transgender women with breasts are vulnerable in male prisons to sexual assault and violence. Transgender men in female prisons are prone to abuse, too, but they are abused more by guards than by other inmates. Transgender women face much higher risk of rape in male prisons.
