The death rate for rabies is over 99%.

Presently, rabies cannot be cured. It can, however, be vaccinated beforehand. Once the symptoms of rabies appear, the only treatment is managing those symptoms and other supportive care. Death is almost a certainty at this point.

The treatment that exists can prevent infection from the disease when administered after an exposure (but before the symptoms appear). The treatment can be used to protect someone before exposure happens also.

If treated before symptoms appear, the chances of survival are very good. If a wild animal bites you, one of the most effective ways to reduce chance of infection is simply washing the wound with soap and water. However, you should get the vaccine as soon as possible!
