Meteorites that fell to Earth during a meteor shower in July of 2011 have been confirmed to be from Mars.
It doesn’t sound possible, does it? Well the statement that the meteorites came from Mars is a little misleading. The rocks were probably just launched off the surface of the planet when it was impacted by an asteroid an unknown number of years ago. So it wasn’t a recent event by any means.
Still, the meteorites falling to Earth in 2011 make it the fifth time in history that people have observed something coming to Earth originally from Mars. About 24,000 meteorites have fallen to Earth, and only 34 have been confirmed to be from Mars. They’re so valuable that they’re sold at ten times the price of gold. In the past, they’ve landed on Earth in 1815, 1865, 1911, and 1962.
