Horseback Riding carries higher injury rate than motorcycle riding!

Maybe it would be safer if Prince Charming rolled in on a Motocross instead. An estimated 30 million Americans ride horses annually, and more than 23 000 riders under the age of 25 have been hospitalized per year as a result.

Most injuries result from falls, and can have severe and often fatal consequences. This rate of injury is higher than that of motorcycling. On average, motorcyclists suffer once every 7000 hours of riding, whereas horseback riders have an accident about once every 350 hours.

This is probably due to the fact that a horse can weigh up to 15 000 pounds and stand as tall as 3 meters high. Both types of riders should wear helmets and knee-pads when participating in their activity.
