As recently as 2009 a man died of the Black Death!
The Black Death is also known as the Bubonic Plague. Malcolm Casadaban was a molecular genetics professor at the University of Chicago. He was working with a strain of the Bubonic Plague when it ended up killing him. Each year the World Health Organization reports thousands of instances of the Black Death, but with proper treatment it isn’t deadly.
