An protein essential to vision is named after Pikachu.
This protein, Pikachurin, is aptly named because it enables the "lightning-fast" transmission of images from the eyes to the brain! Without Pikachurin, these visual signals would move up to three times slower! This protein is also integral to the way an eye tracks moving objects. This can be especially useful when you've "gotta catch 'em all" - those Pokemon can move pretty fast!
