A person would have to have a layer of fat over 2 feet thick for it to stop a bullet.

The Naked Scientists performed an experiment to test how much fat it would take to stop a bullet. They used gelatin to simulate fat and a gas gun in place of a real gun. They concluded that it would take approximately 72 centimeters of gelatin (or fat) to make a bullet come to a complete stop. That’s about 2 feet and 4 inches.

If you were planning on gaining enough weight to stop a bullet, remember that being 72 cm wide wouldn’t work. You need 72 cm of fat between your skin and your internal organs. You would need to have a 72 cm layer of fat on both sides of your body, so you would have at least 144 cm (4 feet and 9 inches) of width, and that’s not counting the width of your internal organs! Carol Yager, who many believe to be the heaviest woman in history, was able to fit through a door that was 121 cm (4 feet) wide. At the time, she was somewhere between 1200 and 1600 pounds, and she still wouldn’t have been able to stop a bullet.
