There is a “Noah’s Ark” for plants in Norway, which houses seeds of every plant to ensure survival!

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is located halfway between Norway and the North Pole. It is deep inside a mountain on a remote island in the Svalbard archipelago. It’s a fail-safe state of the art seed storage facility.

It was built to stand the test of time and all manmade or natural disasters. The vault is used to store duplicates of all seed samples from the world’s crop collection. They are essentially back-ups in case of the worst-case scenario. Bill Gates donated $20 million to the project.

It would be impossible for the seeds to not rot, though. Right? The vault was strategically placed and the permafrost and mountain that it is contained in, with its very thick rock, ensures that the seeds will stay frozen. They’ll even stay frozen should there be a power outage. It’s basically the ultimate insurance policy for the world’s food supply. You’re welcome, world.
