The Idea for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy came to the Author while he was Drunk in a Field!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a sci-fi comedy series by Douglas Adams. It follows the exploits of Englishman, Arthur Dent, and his best friend/alien Ford Prefect through the universe. It has been adapted into a radio serial, a television series, a comic book etc.

In 1971 Adams was hitchhiking around Europe with a copy of Hitchhiker’s Guide to Europe. One night he was laying drunk in a field in Innsbruck under the stars with the book by his side, and came to the realization that no one had written a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the entire Galaxy.

He later claimed however that he had told the story so many times that all he could remember was him telling the story, and not the incident itself. Regardless of where it was conceived, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a celebrated series, and has sustained its popularity through the years.
