Each year, over 500 THOUSAND kids in the US are born without a Dad's name on their birth certificate. Learn more and how to help them
Research shows 4 out of 10, an estimated 24,000,000, U.S. children are growing up in father-absent homes. Children from fatherless homes are more likely to live in poverty, drop out of school, use/abuse drugs and alcohol, become teen parents commit crimes and become incarcerated.
41% of the 4,100,000 kids born annually are born out of wedlock. An estimated 570,000 of those babies do not have a father’s name on their birth certificate. That is more than one per minute, every minute of the year. For the record, just because a dad’s name is on the birth certificate, doesn’t ensure he will provide financially or be present physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Father absence cuts across all ethnic and socioeconomic groups and is prevalent in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Contrary to popular belief, there are more white children growing up in father absent homes across America than any other group.
Father absence isn’t someone else’s problem, it’s everyone’s problem. When kids don’t reach their full potential they become dependent on government programs, which translates into higher taxes and a variety of other social problems.
