Bed nets can reduce malaria transmission by up to 90 percent.

Every year, more than 200 million people are infected with malaria, and 600,000 die from the disease. Most people who die from malaria are  in Africa. Children under five are the most vulnerable, accounting for more than 90 percent of malaria deaths.

But there’s a simple tool to help stop this disease. Hanging an insecticide-treated bed net can reduce transmission of malaria by 90 percent. Bed nets work in two ways:

1. They stop mosquitoes from biting at night and spreading the disease;  
2. The insecticide on the net kills the mosquitos when they land, preventing them from flying on to their next victim.
