A proposed amendment to the US constitution would have put any act of war up to popular vote!
Imagine how different US history would have been if this 1916 proposal would have gone through. The proposal went even further and said that any person who voted "Yes" would automatically be enlisted into the army! Of course, the US constitution is extremely hard to change, and the success rate of amendments is less than 1% so it failed to pass. Here's a few other interesting (aka crazy) proposed amendments:
• 1876: an attempt to abolish the United States Senate
• 1893: renaming this nation the “United States of the Earth”
• 1912: making marriage between races illegal
