German Academics voted "shitstorm" as the best English loanword

A loanword is a word that a language takes directly from another language. English has 'loaned' the words Zeppelin and Zeitgeist from German for example.

German borrows a few words from English too. One of them happens to be 'shitstorm.' A jury of German academics named the word "Shitstorm" as the best English loanword for 2011.

The jury defined the word as "public outcry, primarily on the Internet, in which arguments mix with threats and insults to reach a critical mass, forcing a reaction." It was used a lot in the coverage of the Greek debt crisis.

So yeah... we got Zeppelin and Zeitgeist from them, we gave them shitstorm.. who do you think got the better end of that deal?
