The Hawaiian pizza has nothing to do with Hawaii.

Unless you count the fact that pineapples are grown there. In fact, it wasn't even created in the US. Various sources mention that it was actually a Greek restaurant owner named Sam Panopolous who created it. He was co-owner of a restaurant in Chatham, Ontario, Canada in 1962. The original recipe was just ham, pineapple, tomato sauce and cheese. 

Sam and his brother later tried to popularized another invention, the Hawaiian burger, but that doesn't seem to have taken off. Hawaiian pizza is the most popular pizza in Australia, and it's about 15% of sales. What about you, do you like Hawaiian pizza?
