The CIA Illegally Tortured and Experimented on US and Canadian Citizens in the 1960’s!
Published evidence indicates that the project involved the manipulation of people’s individual mental states through the administration of drugs, chemicals, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, isolation, verbal and sexual abuse, and other kinds of torture.
The citizens they used weren’t prisoners; just innocent and unwitting citizens. Though there was an attempt to make this incident disappear, the 1977 Freedom of Information Act uncovered 20 000 documents, which led to Senate hearings later in the same year.
It was only in 2001 that all the information became officially declassified. One of the “experiments” was slipping LSD to unwitting subjects in social situations (if you’ve read last week’s stories, you’ll know that the CIA was very fond of this practice)
The Agency acknowledged that these tests made little scientific sense. Usually I would suggest that an apology might have been a better idea, but let’s face it, neither can do much to restore peace to those affected and life to the one person who died-or who we know has died.
