In 1914, German and Allied forces came out of the trenches and celebrated Christmas together!


Four months after WWI began, Christmas came. In the south of Ypres Salient the Allied forces and Germans set their fighting aside and met in No Man’s Land to celebrate Christmas. The trenches were only a few hundred feet from each other and the soldiers could yell across to the other side.

They all decided to cease fire and fighting for one night and then returned the next day.
