An Inuit family was taken from Canada to Europe in 1880 to be displayed in zoos!

The Ulrikab family agreed to travel to Europe and live on display in various zoos across Europe. The agreement was that they would walk, talk, wear the native parkas, and throw the harpoon for their keep. They did so to pay off a debt to a Moravian Mission.

The family didn’t receive the smallpox vaccine like they were supposed to before leaving Canada, though. After being beaten and mistreated, all eight members died within a year of smallpox.
