A bouncing bomb was created during WWII!

Created by British engineer Barnes Wallis, this bomb was one that could bounce on a body of water to its target in such a way that it would avoid obstacles like torpedo nets.

The bomb’s speed upon arrival and the timing of its detonation could be predetermined and would remain unchanged. The bomb was used in the RAF’s Operation Chasitise of May 1943.

It bounced into German dams and exploded underwater. The effects were similar to the underground detonation of the earthquake bomb, Grand Slam, and Tall Boy, both of which were invented by the same scientist. The British bouncing bombs fashioned names like upkeep, highball, and baseball.
