Woody Harrelson's father was a hitman!
His name was Charles Voyde Harrelson and he was heavily involved in organized crime. Born in Texas in 1938, Harrelson lived a normal life. When he grew up, he became an encyclopedia salesman in California and attempted a stint as a professional gambler.
Surrounded by the gambling culture, Harrelson got mixed up with the wrong crowd and was later arrested for armed robbery. Harrelson continued down the wrong path and became famous for his murderous personality. His most famous killing was that of a federal judge by the name of John. H. Wood, Jr, who happened to be the first federal judge killed in the 20th century.
Harrelson was hired by a drug dealer to kill the judge because he had a reputation for being especially strict on drug offenses. He was caught, however, and sentenced to two life terms. Charles Harrelson's son, Woody, became extremely famous in various television and film roles and is perhaps best known for his role on ‘Cheers.’
Woody says his father left the family when he was young and they were estranged ever since. He had never heard a thing about his father until his arrest made headlines in 1981, after which he visited him regularly in prison.
While Charles was implicated in only two murders, it’s likely there are more that the government does not know about. On multiple occasions he was overheard boasting of the rich and famous whom he had a hand in killing, and even claimed he was one of three men who assassinated Kennedy!
