The final race in the movie ‘Cool Runnings’ featured footage from the actual heat when they crashed in 1988!

The film was based on the true story of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Canada where the Jamaican bobsled team competed for the first time. They were the obvious underdogs for being the only tropical team in a winter sport.

Their final race in the movie actually had footage from the real crash in the 1988 Winter Olympics. The story is a loose retelling, as all the characters in the film are fictional. One part that was true, though, was the real team was inspired by pushcart racing and track sprinters.
