You might think this was due the increased usage of aluminum and other, lighter metals in car manufacturing, but this is not the case. Steel was and still is the main component of the modern car, currently comprising about 60% of the total weight of most contemporary models. However, modern automotive steel is much different than it was back in the time of Henry Ford. Nowadays, steel alloys are of a much lighter and stronger grade than they were just a couple decades ago!
