Mark Hamill only got the part of Luke Skywalker because Robert Englund told him to audition.

Robert Englund is a classically trained American actor best known for playing Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street film series. In the mid 70’s, Englund wanted to get into movies and auditioned for the part of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. He didn’t win the role during his audition and suggested that his friend Mark Hamill audition. Englund’s first film ended up being Eaten Alive.

Like Hamill, he has done work in voice acting. Both voice actors have voiced characters in different Batman media. After Star Wars, Mark Hamill’s film success waned. He has had a few recent movie roles, including the Percy Jackson film, but today is best known for his work voicing The Joker in various television shows and video games (including the Batman: Arkham Asylum series).
