Jim Henson didn’t go to the hospital right away shortly before he died, because he didn’t want to bother people!
On May 12th he visited family in North Carolina. He felt tired and sick, so he went to the doctor who found no signs of pneumonia and told Henson to take some aspirin. Then on May 15th while home in New York spending time with his estranged wife, Henson began coughing up blood, but didn’t go to the hospital because he said it went against his religion (he was raised as a Christian Scientist, but there is little data of his adult faith).
His wife said he hated to bother people and that was a reason he didn’t go. Finally he headed to the hospital in the middle of the night not being able to breathe on his own. Within 24 hours he went into septic shock and cardiac arrest twice. He died of bacterial pneumonia.
