Chevy Chase’s Comedy Central Roast was so mean they refused to air it more than once!
Chevy Chase is one of the most prolific comedians in Hollywood, yet that didn’t stop countless celebrities from trashing him so thoroughly he was brought to the verge of tears in front of a national audience.
Why exactly was this comedian so hurt? Chase’s resume includes SNL, several National Lampoon movies, and his own syndicated talk show, and he had in fact been "roasted" in the early 90’s. Chase said he had enjoyed the night as prolific actors such as Robert De Niro and Paul Newman lovingly trashed his "smart-ass" comedy style, so when asked to participate again in 2002 Chase thought it was a no brainer.
Yet as the night progressed and not one of his friends was in attendance Chase was hurt beyond belief. He was forced to sit through an entire night of B-list celebrities who didn’t know him critique such personal flaws as relationships and drug problems. Chase said it was such a slap in the face that it forced him to reconsider his entire life, and when called up at the end for a closing statement all he could mutter was, "That hurt." Comedy Central refuses to air the Roast because it was so mean!
