Charlize Theron is a South African actress possibly best known for her performances in The Cider House Rules, Prometheus, and Snow White & The Huntsman. In a 2007 interview, it was revealed that when Theron was 15, she witnessed her mother kill her father- in self-defense.
Speaking to Piers Morgan, Theron recounted the incident to try and ensure her mother wouldn’t become infamous for the incident, which had started to become the case. Theron says she is at peace with her father’s killing, and rather than focus on his death, she focuses on her mother’s actions.
She said “I know all daughters or children will say this, it sounds very biased, but she is very unique... she’s saved my life many times.” Charlize’s father, Charles Theron, was an alcoholic who had physically assaulted Theron’s mother.
On 21 June 1991, Charles drunkenly threatened both Charlize and her mother, and started attacking her mother, who responded by shooting Charles. As a self defense killing, it was deemed lawful in South Africa.
