Brian May, guitarist for Queen has a PhD in Astrophysics!
He had originally obtained his BSc Hons before Queen became successful, but put his studying on hold to become a full-time musician. He returned to university in 2007 and completed his PhD. He has also co-wrote a book, called ‘Bang! – The Complete History of the Universe’ with Sir Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott.
He has also co-authored and published two research papers and the asteroid 52665 Brianmay was named after him. May is also an animal rights activist. He has founded a campaign group, called Save Me, who campaign against any unfair treatment of animals, and has spoken out in particular against badger culling and fox hunting.
He has also stated that he would rather be remembered for his charity work than his music or science!
