Blood from KISS band members was mixed with the red ink used to print the first KISS comic book.
In 1977, Marvel issued the first KISS comic book and in an attempt to boost sales, they asked the band to add their own blood to the ink! The idea was a natural fit, seeing as the group’s onstage alter-egos were in the vein of comic book superheroes. They agreed to donate their own blood to the cause and even had it drawn in front of a notary public to make it completely official! After the blood was taken, it was kept under guarded refrigeration until being flown with the group to Marvel’s printing plant in New York. There, KISS took promotional photographs that showed them adding their blood to the red ink personally!
