And the most unpopular celebrity in America is… Paris Hilton!
So it turns out that not that many Americans want to Ms.Hilton’s BFF after all. Paris Hilton of course, is the great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton; the founder of Hilton Hotels. As a result of her family ties, she has is also a socialite, actress, fashion designer, and musician. Hilton gained significant notoriety for a sex tape that was released in November 2003.
The sex tape dramatically increased public interest in her reality TV show Simple Life, which came out shortly after. But just because Paris Hilton is popular, doesn’t exactly mean she is well-liked. She appeared in the 2007 Guinness World Records as the “Most Overrated Celebrity.” In a poll conducted by the Associate Press and AOL, Hilton was voted “Worst Celebrity Role Model of 2006” (behind Britney Spears). In 2012, she ranked at number five in the “Most Over-Exposed” list on Forbes. And in a 2011 poll, 60% of American responders had an unfavorable opinion of her.
Now, while the general public constantly criticizes Paris Hilton for being disproportionately popular, it should be noted that by going crazy every time she comes out with a new sex tape and/or scrolling down a gallery of unflattering pictures of her and then writing snarky comments about them; they are only contributing to her popularity.
